Every pipe has a life span. Galvanized steel corrodes from the inside and slowly chokes off water pressure. Polybutylene, used in many homes built from the late 1970s to the mid 1990s, can fail without warning. Even copper can develop pinhole leaks after decades of service.
When a home reaches that point, fixing one leak just moves the problem to the next weak spot, and leak detection keeps finding new ones. A whole-home repipe replaces every supply line at once, so the leaks stop, the pressure comes back and the water runs clear.

Repiping Upstate homes
The Upstate has a lot of homes from the 1950s through the 1990s, and they cover the full range of aging pipe. Older homes in Greenville and Spartanburg often still have galvanized steel. Many subdivisions built in the 1980s and early 1990s used polybutylene, the gray plastic pipe that insurers and home inspectors flag.
Many homes here sit on crawl spaces, which makes repiping easier than in many parts of the country. The new lines can often run under the house and come up through the floor at each fixture, with fewer openings in finished walls.
