Tankless water heater swap in Greenville
An existing tankless water heater replaced with a new Navien unit, with clean, serviceable piping.
The problem
This Greenville home already had a tankless water heater mounted on a brick wall, and it was time to replace the old unit.
What we did
- Removed the old tankless unit
- Installed a new Navien tankless water heater on the brick wall
- Re-piped the gas, water and condensate connections with isolation valves for future service
- Set the temperature to 125 degrees and tested
The result
A new Navien tankless water heater in the same spot, with neat, serviceable piping underneath. The new isolation valves mean the heat exchanger can be flushed without cutting into the pipes, and the temperature is set at 125 degrees.

Questions about this job
Why put isolation valves on a tankless water heater?
Isolation valves, also called service valves, let a plumber shut the unit off from the house and connect a pump to flush scale out of the heat exchanger. Without them, every yearly flush means cutting into the piping.
Is replacing a tankless unit easier than a first install?
Usually. The gas line, vent and water lines are already there, so most of the work is removing the old unit, matching the connections to the new one, and testing. If the gas line or vent does not suit the new unit, those are updated too.
How often should a tankless water heater be flushed?
Once a year in most homes, and more often on well water, which tends to carry more minerals. See tankless water heater repair for flushing and error codes.
