Every drain in the house runs to one line

Each sink, tub, shower and toilet drains into branch lines under the house, which join the main sewer line on its way to the city sewer or your septic tank. That is why the location of a clog matters. One slow sink is usually a local clog. Several fixtures backing up at once, especially the lowest ones in the house, points to the main line.

We start by working out where the problem is, then clear it with the right tool: a cable for most household clogs, hydro-jetting for grease, scale and roots, and a camera to see what is going on inside the pipe. If the pipe itself is cracked, sagging or broken, we show you the repair options with prices.

Signs of a main sewer line problem

These point beyond a single drain:

  • Several drains slow or backing up at once
  • Water coming up in the tub when you flush
  • Gurgling from toilets and floor drains
  • Sewage smell inside or in the yard
  • Wet, sunken spots over the sewer line
  • Clogs that keep coming back

How we diagnose and fix drains

  • Cabling

Clears hair, soap and food clogs in branch lines quickly.

  • Camera inspection

Shows roots, breaks, sags and buildup, and where they are.

  • Hydro-jetting

Scours the full pipe wall clean of grease, scale and roots.

  • Drain and sewer repair

Spot repairs or full replacement of damaged sections.

Drain and sewer lines in Upstate homes

Many older homes in Greenville, Taylors and Spartanburg have cast iron drains under the house and clay or cast iron sewer lines in the yard. Tree roots work into the joints, and red clay soil that swells and shrinks with the seasons can crack or sag the pipe. Newer homes usually have PVC, which resists roots but can still clog with grease and wipes.

A camera inspection tells us which of these is happening in your line, so the fix matches the problem instead of clearing the same clog again in six months.

Another outstanding job by Ethical. They rectified a very shoddy drainage system install by the original contractor on a new addition. Much appreciate the work. Thanks Brendan and Ivan.

Drain and sewer services FAQs

How do I know if the clog is in the main line?

If more than one fixture is slow or backing up, especially the lowest ones in the house, the clog is likely in the main line. One slow sink is usually a local clog.

What does a sewer camera inspection show?

It shows roots, cracks, sags, offsets and buildup inside the pipe, and how far from the cleanout they are, so we can recommend the right fix.

Is hydro-jetting better than snaking?

Snaking punches a hole through a clog. Hydro-jetting scrubs the pipe wall clean, which keeps grease and roots from coming back as quickly.

Can tree roots be removed from a sewer line?

Yes. Hydro-jetting or cutting clears them, but they grow back if the joint they entered stays open. A repair at that spot is the long-term fix.

Who is responsible for the sewer line, me or the city?

Generally the homeowner is responsible for the line from the house to the city connection. The city handles the main in the street. We can tell you where yours connects.

Do you work on septic lines?

We clear and repair the drain line from the house to the septic tank. Pumping the tank itself is done by a septic company.

How much does drain cleaning cost?

It depends on which line is clogged, whether there is a cleanout, and the method needed. You get a written price before work starts.

Do you offer sewer line replacement?

Yes. Financing is available through GoodLeap.
